{PRODUCTS WE USED}
The Challenge
In the old structure in Azure, calculations were made with DAX formulas on the PowerBI, Since they did not have reusable data warehouse layers the performance of the dashboard was not sufficient. The challenge here is to convert DAX calculations to BigQuery logic using SQL and necessary technologies and then create the data warehouse, revise the entire DAX layer and recreate the dashboard in PBI.
The Solution
We converted the DAX formulas in PBI to SQL-based calculations, building a more efficient structure, and built self-service BI-friendly data warehouse layers in BigQuery using Dataform. Once the data warehouse was created, we rebuilt the requested dashboard. We changed the dashboard’s data source, rebuilt almost all of the DAX logic, and rebuilt the dashboard in PowerBI.
The Result
As a result, we now have a PowerBI dashboard with better performance, where we do most of the calculations in BigQuery and use only the switch logic in PBI, and new data warehouse layers in BigQuery. When a change is requested, it can be easily done with Dataform. In addition, the new data warehouse structure in BigQuery is also suitable for self-service BI.
